TEACHING as a CAREER
YOUNG MAORI PEOPLE are needed as teachers
PRIMARY TEACHERS need Endorsed School Certificate or higher
SECONDARY TEACHERS need University Entrance or higher
PRIMARY TRAINING
You enter a Teachers' College at Auckland, Ardmore, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin for two or three years.
Some hostel accommodation is available.
While training you are paid a salary. Minimum rates are: £385—with School Certificate, £425 — with University Entrance, plus a boarding allowance.
As soon as your leave Teachers' College the minimum salary rises to: £805—with School Certificate; £855—with University Entrance—with annual increments.
SECONDARY TRAINING
There are several ways of becoming a Secondary teacher:| (a) |
Full time University studies followed by a year at a Teachers' College. Bursaries and studentships are available. |
| (b) |
Concurrent teacher training and University study. Salary as for primary training. |
| (c) |
Specialist training in Homecraft or Commercial Teaching at a Teachers' College. Salary as for primary training. |
