CROSSWORD PUZZLE
Some clues were unfortunately omitted from our last crossword puzzle (no. 13). One reader suggested that one hundred guineas would not be an excessive prize for anyone able to solve it with the clues missing. The clues were:
Across: 50: an adverb meaning ‘cautiously’; 51: an interjection expressing admiration: 52: now, presently; 53: by way of.
Down: 36: the young of the ‘tamure’; 38: to beget; 40: the Maori name for the Jewish race; 41: to sing or chant; 43: night; 44: blossom; 45: good; 46: a stream or river; 47: to crack, or emit a sharp explosive sound; 48: to fish; 49: the breath.
Solutions to Puzzle no. 13 will still be accepted until May 14 and a guinea prize will be available for a correct solution. A similar prize is available for a correct solution to Puzzle no. 14, published on this page. Solutions to this puzzle must also reach this office by May 14. If more than one correct solution is received to any one puzzle, the winner is determined by lot.
