CLERICAL CADETS: Youths 15 to 19 years of age with not less than two years secondary education. Holders of School Certificate or University Entrance Examination accepted up to 20 years of age.

Commencing salaries vary according to educational qualifications, and include lodging allowance if living away from home.

TRAFFIC BRANCH: Youths and men 16 to 39 years of age.

LOCOMOTIVE BRANCH: Youths and men 16 to 23 years of age.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING WORKSHOPS: Fitters, Fitters (Electrical), Turners, Springmakers, Boilermakers, Blacksmiths, Moulders, Coppersmiths, Sheet-metal workers, Carpenters, Painters; also Labourers.

WAY AND WORKS BRANCH: Carpenters, Electricians, Fitters, Plumbers, Painters; also Labourers (including juniors). Junior mechanicians for communications work.
